In our July 1st patch we will be making significant improvements to League Challenge. Before we jump in, we thought we’d do a quick look back to what’s changed and brought us to this current moment.
Throughout the last few months we’ve been making changes to help streamline the League Challenge experience. For instance, the UI has been overhauled to show which characters in your roster match the current requirements. You can even select characters directly from this menu straight into your lineup! These changes have had a great impact on more and more teams participating in, and completing the weekly challenges.
In today’s preview, we’re outlining further changes to League Challenge to improve the per sector experience, introducing some new boss systems, and rolling out new rewards along with.
Battle Effects
While the UI updates to League Challenge have been an improvement, we feel the Character Requirement Tags focused too much on a character’s Faction or City of Origin and didn’t encourage enough League coordination.
In the upcoming patch, we’re changing each sector’s required Tags to focus more on a range of specific teams. Characters matching the sector specific Tag will gain stacking increases to Health, Attack, and Defense depending how many characters match the selected tag.
We also want to lean into Team Synergy to further embolden tags. We feel this will allow Leagues to better coordinate on individuals with the strongest teams to beat each sector fight.
- Stacking Tag Bonus: For each character with the corresponding tag, all allies gain +25% Attack, Defense, and Health.
- Team Synergy Bonus: The attack, defense, and HP of your teams are increased by X% if you are using the corresponding Team Synergy. Stats further increase for each Team Synergy Level.
Let’s see how this looks…
Parademon Sector
The Parademons encounter features a group of respawning enemies that apply Burn effects. Here’s a look at the Battle Effect tag bonuses featured in this area along with some light suggestions on teams for each sector.
- Area of Effect (AOE)
Since the fight focuses on a group, bringing AOE to a fight is always a good idea, but bringing someone with Dispel can strip away the buffs Parademons spawn with. Green Arrow holds the AOE Team Synergy and can kill-chain with his Ultimate. Constantine is great for AOE, and can supply Dispel along with. - Burn
The Burn status effect is great for groups, often explosively! Superboy holds the Burn Team Synergy, while Starfire offers burn and can Dispel enemy buffs (more on that in the next section). Dr Phosphorous really likes that the Parademons apply Burn. - Target: Back Row
Robin holds the Target: Back Row Team Synergy, which at level 3 can even steal buffs! Poison Ivy is a strong addition and Mirror Master can duplicate debuffs along with.
This is by no means prescriptive, we want players to build teams that suit their styles with characters on their roster that fit these roles. We can’t wait to see what teams you prefer to use!
Boss Escalations
To lean into counter-play and balance against the new Battle Effects system, we are implementing a new mechanic which plays into the infinitely respawning behavior of our League Challenge bosses.
As the bosses revive, their skills level up and become more threatening. At higher revives, an optimized team selected to take advantage of Battle Effects and exploit the bosses weaknesses becomes more and more important.
Here’s a couple examples, again for Parademons:
- Parademons are getting a nerf to how their stats increase with each revive, but we are sending them back in with increasing stacks of attack or armor buffs. Here’s the twist: those buffs are fragile, and if you dispel one, you dispel the entire stack. So a team with the ability to dispel buffs is, if you’ll pardon the pun, pretty hot.
- Speaking of hot, while Parademons can dish out a lot of Burn, they don’t handle it so well themselves. Maybe Darkseid isn’t too concerned with the quality of his shock troop’s flamethrowers, but when Parademons use their basic skill they deal themselves damage for each stack of Burn on them.
Be sure to pop open the strategy details for each boss and tap on their skills to get the full details on all the Boss Escalations.
New Difficulties
We are adding in two new difficulty tiers for those Leagues looking for a bit more challenge! We recommend Leagues review the per sector changes and coordinate on teams to effectively tackle the encounters.
New Rewards
In addition to changes to encounters, we also did a pass to increase the overall League Challenge Rewards. Expect to see new Rewards tied to Personal, Repel, and Leaderboard payouts. We’re also adding more Reward Chests throughout the challenges.
But wait, there’s more – Introducing the new League Encrypted Token for use in a new Motherbox banner. This new banner is intended to help players earn more Rare and Elite fragments to aid in Ranking Up characters. This new Encrypted Token will not reward Uncommon characters, but there is a chance for Legendary characters.
Additionally, the new Motherbox banner features Legendary and Epic Characters from previous seasons. When it opens on July 1st, you’ll find the following Legendary and Epic characters in the pool, alongside all currently available elite characters.
- Legendary: Doctor Fate, Sinestro, the Bride
- Epic: Raven, Pandora, Green Lantern John, Mera, Dr Phosphorous, and Weasel.
